Empowering Futures: Nurturing Careers at Falmouth School

At Falmouth School, we take pride in our commitment to guiding students through the crucial decisions that shape their future. Our comprehensive careers education and provision at both Key Stage 3 (KS3) and Key Stage 4 (KS4) levels is designed to empower students with the knowledge and skills needed for success beyond the classroom.

One distinctive feature of our approach is the engaging Business Breakfasts that bring local employers into direct conversation with our students. These sessions provide invaluable insights into various industries, allowing students to explore potential career paths firsthand. Complementing this initiative is our annual Careers Fayre, a vibrant event attended by a diverse array of employers, ranging from the armed forces and fire service to IT companies and social care providers. This exposure enables students to broaden their horizons and consider a wide spectrum of professions.

Our commitment to weaving real-world connections into the curriculum is evident in our structured approach. History classes, for instance, explore the ways in which their subject supports careers in intelligence services, law, or politics. Similarly, English lessons shed light on the pathways leading to journalism careers, while engineering classes pave the way for opportunities with multinational companies engaged in global projects.

The foundation of our careers program rests on meeting the eight Gatsby Benchmarks, ensuring a robust and well-rounded approach to career development. Additionally, our discreet timetabled Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) lessons provide practical guidance, assisting students in navigating the maze of decision-making regarding their future steps. Throughout the year there are also other career focused events such as National careers week, annually in March and workshops provided by local businesses. If you would like to be involved in this and be a Career Champion please get in touch. Our Year 11 students are also invited to one to one specialist interviews with a careers adviser. Students are also able to create an account using career pilot which enables them to build up a career profile over the course of their time here with us at Falmouth School.

At Falmouth School, we go beyond the conventional boundaries of education, fostering an environment where students are not merely learners but explorers of their own potential. Our commitment to careers education prepares them for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, equipping them with the skills and confidence needed to shape their own destinies.
